Driving in from Los Angeles

Coming up from Downtown or Hollywood, most people ride the Hollywood Freeway through the Cahuenga Pass and stay on it as it becomes the 170 past the Hollywood Split. Exit at Burbank Boulevard, turn right to head east, and go past Colfax, Lankershim, and Vineland Avenue. We are on your left at 10909, right at Cleon Ave. Prefer surface streets? Take Cahuenga Boulevard over the pass, follow Lankershim north into NoHo, and turn right on Burbank. You stay in your car for a Star, Regular, Change of Ownership, Hybrid, or out of state test, about 10 minutes and $60 out the door.

How much is a smog check for Los Angeles drivers?

$60 out the door if your car passes: $51.75 for the inspection plus $8.25 for the certificate. That includes the electronic transfer to the DMV. There are no extra credit card fees.

I just moved to Los Angeles from another state. Can Joe's do my smog check?

No. Joe's is a walk in drive thru with no appointments. Pull in during open hours: Monday to Friday 9 AM to 6 PM, Saturday 9 AM to 2 PM, closed Sunday.

I live in the city of Los Angeles. Is there a smog check closer to the Valley freeways than downtown?

Yes. Joe's is at 10909 Burbank Blvd in North Hollywood. Take the 170 to the Burbank Boulevard exit and head east; we are on the north side of the street, one block past Vineland Ave at Cleon Ave. Walk in only, no appointments, Monday to Friday 9 to 6 and Saturday 9 to 2.

Which DMV offices are near downtown Los Angeles and Hollywood?

The Los Angeles DMV field office is at 3615 S Hope Street, the Hollywood office is at 803 Cole Avenue, and the West Hollywood office is at 936 N Formosa Ave. Your passing smog result is sent to the DMV electronically, so you do not need to bring a paper copy.
